Guy Pickles

Head of Vaccines

Guy Pickles has worked in the global health field for more than ten years, both in the pharmaceutical sector and in social finance organisations. He has specific expertise in immunisation policy and advocacy, and has developed market access strategies and public-private partnerships that facilitate access to life-saving vaccines and deliver positive impact at scale.

At MedAccess, Guy is Head of Vaccines within the Health Investments team. In his role, Guy leads a team of experts to identify, scope, and execute transactions with partners to deliver innovative health products in low- and middle-income countries, creating new market opportunities that meet the needs of all stakeholders and achieve the greatest impact. His work involves extensive due diligence and analysis, defining the transaction structure, evaluating risk, and assessing the development impact across a portfolio of market shaping agreements. He also leads the negotiation and consensus-building required to bring external stakeholders together across the global health ecosystem to steward agreements to execution.

Immediately prior to MedAccess, Guy was a Manager at Social Finance UK, a global non-profit social finance consultancy, managing engagements with international donors, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and the private sector, to develop strategies and partnerships that leverage innovative finance, data analysis and new technologies to deliver more effective global health programmes. In this role, Guy worked across a broad range of global health focused projects, building experience in outcomes-based innovative financing models to address market barriers, the development of scoping studies and intervention analysis, and in the design, financial modelling and investor engagement required to take market access solutions from design to implementation.

Guy started his career at GSK, initially as part of the Future Leaders Graduate programme, and then as Senior Manager, Global Health in GSK‘s Vaccines business, where he led global health policy and access partnership activities in collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders including governments, NGOs, and multilateral agencies such as Unicef and Gavi. His experience at GSK included a focus on vaccine policy and access, working with Gavi to implement vaccine pricing commitments for countries transitioning towards self-financing; and with civil society organisations to broker immunisation and innovative finance programmes to support vaccination campaign implementation in countries including Egypt and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. As a member of GSK’s Malaria Vaccine project team, Guy also supported the design and delivery of the strategy to secure funding for malaria vaccine pilots in sub-Saharan Africa, a critical step in the subsequent development and roll-out of the first malaria vaccine, RTS,S.

Guy holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Geography from the University of Nottingham, UK.
