Dr Michelle Teo

Chief Investment Officer

Dr Michelle Teo is a seasoned finance and investment professional and has worked in global finance institutions in London and Hong Kong across several investment fields, including leveraged finance, corporate finance and credit trading.

Michelle brings unique expertise that blends healthcare and finance. Qualifying and working as a junior doctor in the NHS during the early part of her career, her passion to achieve greater impact in public health led her to explore other avenues. She then moved to the financial sector, developing her expertise in investment and financial risk, and working as a product specialist across many different industries, including healthcare.

As Chief Investment Officer at MedAccess, Michelle oversees all of the organisation’s investment activities. This includes overall responsibility for the entire portfolio of financial agreements that MedAccess undertakes with its partners, from early identification and analysis through to partnership creation, negotiation and execution. She leads complex transactions with external partners to deliver significant impact, including agreements with COVAX, UNICEF and all partners involved in the procurement and delivery of the RTS,S malaria vaccine.

Michelle leads the design and implementation of all of MedAccess’ investment policies, procedures, frameworks, and reporting metrics, and works jointly with the Chief Operating Officer across all environment, social and governance priorities and policies. She is also responsible for investing the capital funds provided by anchor investor British Investment International (BII) in line with MedAccess’ investment policy.

Prior to MedAccess, Michelle’s financial career began at Merrill Lynch in the Financial Sponsors Group and Leveraged Finance teams, where she intentionally focused on gaining experience outside of the healthcare sector to broaden her knowledge and hone her financial expertise. She has held numerous senior positions in financial organisations in London and Hong Kong, including AIG’s credit trading desk where she helped run a portfolio of Asia Pacific assets, before returning to London with Bank of America as Managing Director of Corporate Finance and Restructuring. In this role, Michelle also served as an independent senior banker on the firm’s EMEA Equity Commitment Council, analysing and approving transactions in line with the risk requirements of the business.

Michelle holds a Bachelor of Arts in Physiological Sciences, and a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, from the University of Oxford, UK. She has an MBA from Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University, UK. She is passionate about higher education and its role in unlocking the huge potential in young people and works as an independent governor at University of Northampton, and a Council Member at Trinity College London.
