Alex Mustetea
Head of Malaria
Alex Mustetea has worked in finance and investing for over ten years. He has worked in global and specialist finance organisations and across a wide range of sectors in healthcare and technology, and is a specialist in sustainable investment strategies and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) analysis.
Alex is Head of Malaria at MedAccess, where he is responsible for identifying and quantifying risk across MedAccess’ malaria transactions. His responsibilities span the full investment lifecycle, from originating investment opportunities, engaging with global health stakeholders on market failures, assessing how financial instruments and market shaping interventions can drive development impact, to structuring and executing transactions that achieve these goals. A core function of his role is conducting in-depth research on funding sources, procurement trends, decision making and competitive dynamics to build demand forecasts in markets often characterised by imperfect data and high volatility. He frequently engages with officials from ministries of health, international donors, suppliers and on-the-ground implementation partners in key markets.
Alex’s early career in financial investment ignited his interest in impact investing and innovative development finance. Prior to MedAccess, Alex held a number of senior roles in global finance organisations, including Deutsche Bank, Eight Roads, and Hg Capital. At Deutsche Bank, Alex served as Vice President, ESG Team Head within the Chief Investment Office, leading the development of Deutsche Bank Wealth Management’s Sustainable Investments Strategy and overseeing the global acceleration of the ESG campaign across several work-streams. This resulted in the simultaneous launch of new products and analytics, marketing materials and staff trainings. Prior to that, he worked on equity investments across a range of healthcare and software companies.
Alex holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in International Business Studies from the Friedrich-Alexander University, Germany, a Business BA from University of Hull, UK, and a Master of Science in Management and Strategy from the London School of Economics.
