The Access Matters Podcast
The Access Matters Podcast brings you insights from the leaders and experts working to expand access to health products around the world.
We explore the partnerships, ideas and strategies that can turn medical innovation into wider access, faster, in an increasingly fragmented global health landscape.
🎙️ Episode #1: Who will benefit from AI-driven advances in healthcare?
In the first episode of The Access Matters Podcast, MedAccess CEO Michael Anderson speaks with Dr Neil Buddy Shah, CEO of the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), about what it takes to turn exciting medical innovations into products and services that save and protect lives.
They look at why effective market shaping requires much more than the deployment of smart financing tools. Buddy shares insights from CHAI’s experiences working with governments, manufacturers, buyers and technical experts to address the multiple market barriers that stop products from reaching people. He also details CHAI’s work to bring long-acting HIV prevention to more people, and how this could help to end HIV as a public health threat within a generation.
Michael and Buddy also look ahead to the potential opportunities and challenges from AI. Buddy sets out specific areas from drug discovery to patient consultations where AI could spark a dramatic shift in how we tackle illness – and why lower resource settings are well-placed to become early adopters of AI for healthcare.

Do you want to hear more about how markets can work better for health?
During 2025, we filmed interviews with some of the key people who have helped turn market shaping from an innovative concept into an effective force for increasing and accelerating access to health products.
Our CEO, Michael Anderson, sat down with Ira Magaziner, Natalie Revelle, Aurélia Nguyen, Achim Reddig and Hema Srinivasan to learn more about their experiences on the frontlines of market shaping over the past 15 years. In early 2026, Michael interviewed Nobel prize winning economist Michael Kremer and Rachel Glennerster, President of the Center of Global Development, to discuss their work on developing the first – and so far only – Advance Market Commitment for a health product.
Finally, we invited Andrew Jack from the Financial Times to put Michael Anderson under the spotlight to learn more about why MedAccess was founded, what we have achieved and the challenges we have encountered.
