The Hologic Global Access Initiative was launched at the International AIDS Society Conference in July 2018, setting a new standard for affordable and transparent pricing. The breakthrough agreement sets out one low price per-patient test including the costs of delivery, maintenance, and service as well as all consumables.
Under the agreement, MedAccess will underwrite the risk of supplying the tests in uncertain markets, allowing Hologic to introduce viral load testing to national government testing programmes at a significantly reduced rate. It is anticipated that the agreement will save public sector purchasers over $50m over the next four years and beyond. At least five countries in sub-Saharan Africa are expected to introduce this technology in 2018.
