Meet the team

Michael Anderson CB

Chief Executive Officer & Board Member

Michael brings over 30 years’ experience to his leadership role, covering business, government, law, academia and non-profits with a focus on international development.

Before joining MedAccess, Michael was CEO of the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, having previously served as Director General at DFID, Special Envoy for the UK Prime Minister on International Development, and on the UN Commission for Life-Saving Commodities.  

Michelle Akande

Vice President, Health Markets

Michelle leads on assessing markets for the Oncology portfolio and building partnerships in Africa. Bringing more than 15 years’ experience to her role, Michelle was previously at Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson, where she occupied several positions including Associate Director with responsibility for Market Access Projects across the EMEA region. She oversaw Janssen’s expansion into Sub-Saharan Africa and was Country Manager for Nigeria.

Michelle holds several degrees including an MSc in Health Policy from Imperial College, London and an MBA from Nottingham University Business School.

Steph Allen

Team Assistant, Health Markets

Steph manages all aspects of administration for the Health Markets team.

Before joining MedAccess, Steph was Senior Executive Assistant and Client Engagement and Marketing Manager at Citi Group where she was responsible for the administration within the Investor Sales Team. She also managed marketing for Citi EMEA and prior to this she held several Executive Assistant roles within Bank of America Merrill Lynch and The London Stock Exchange.

Steph holds a Diploma in Office Management and she is qualified as an ILEX Legal Secretary.

Colleen Connell

Senior Consultant

Colleen advises on identifying, developing, and prioritising financial guarantee opportunities, as well as assessing health markets, technical suitability, and developmental impact. Once a guarantee is agreed, she also advises on deal monitoring and implementation.

Colleen previously held leadership positions at the Clinton Health Access Initiative, where her roles included Vice President (Access Programs), Senior Director (New Market Opportunities), and Regional Director (Latin America & Caribbean).

Natasha Davie

Health Markets Consultant

Natasha analyses health markets to identify financial guarantee opportunities. She also contributes to due diligence, guarantee implementation, and development impact assessment.

Natasha is an engineer by training and holds a PhD in Medical Sciences from the University of Oxford. Prior to joining MedAccess she worked at the Boston Consulting Group for three years as a core member of the healthcare practice area.

Sophie Denman

Executive Assistant

Sophie manages all aspects of team administration for MedAccess, including scheduling, events and communication.

After graduating from the University of Southampton with a BA in Social Anthropology, Sophie worked in high-level assistant roles in NGOs, travel, IT and telecoms companies before joining MedAccess.

Charlene Frater

Team Assistant, Operations

Charlene supports all of the administrative processes and procedures relating to operations. She joined MedAccess from CDC’s Environmental and Social Responsibility Team.

Charlene holds a BA (Hons) in English Language & Literature from City of Birmingham University, and she has several years of senior level public sector administrative experience including with HM Diplomatic Service and the NHS.

Jonathan Hutchins

General Counsel & Chief Operations Officer

Jonathan leads delivery of the price ceiling guarantee product itself. He manages all transactions, oversees the corporate structure, ensures operations are aligned with key objectives and advises on all legal risks.

Jonathan began his career at Clifford Chance, moving on to COO and GC roles at Globeleq, Actis Energy Fund and the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority. Prior to joining MedAccess, he worked as Legal Consultant for IFC InfraVentures.

Rivha Kamara

Investment Associate

Rivha supports the work throughout MedAccess from deal origination to the execution and monitoring of transactions both financially and for development impact. Her work includes research and analysis, data collection, due diligence, and portfolio management.

Rivha’s background is in investment banking and development finance. Before joining MedAccess, she worked for a development finance institution as an associate, covering investments within the chemical products and pharmaceuticals sector.

Rob Kelly

Head of External Relations

Rob leads on external relations activities for MedAccess, ensuring that the organisation’s unique proposition is understood and valued, while building strong relationships with global health partners.

Rob has more than a decade of experience communicating on high profile health and development issues across the public, private and NGO sectors. He has previously held communications roles at Department for International Development, Gavi, Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson, and Frontline AIDS.

Hafeez Ladha

Vice President, Health Markets

Hafeez manages investments from early stage pipeline through to deployment of the guarantee product. Focusing on South and Southeast Asian markets, he brings several years of experience in social finance, management consulting and healthcare.

Most recently, Hafeez served as a Blended Finance consultant to development finance institutions and venture capital funds, as a Case Team Leader at Bain & Company and at the Clinton Health Access Initiative. Hafeez holds an MBA from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and an MPH from Columbia University.

Mia Liu

Health Markets Consultant

Mia identifies financial guarantee opportunities to improve health markets. She also supports due diligence, guarantee implementation and development impact assessment.

Mia joined MedAccess from Boston Consulting Group, where she supported clients on strategy development, sector analysis, and financial modelling. She began her career at Deutsche Bank, where she was a Vice President in FX structuring.

Mia holds an engineering degree from the University of Cambridge and she is a fluent Mandarin Chinese speaker.

Ellie Marsh

Vice President, Health Markets

Ellie works with multilateral global health organisations and pharmaceutical companies to identify financial guarantee opportunities across HIV, TB, malaria, reproductive and child health and cardiovascular disease, and works with the team to diligence and structure potential partnerships.

Ellie’s previous work has been centred around international development and public health. Before taking time out to pursue further studies in health economics at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, Ellie spent over five years at Dalberg Advisors leading a range of global health projects across developing country settings.

Evans Mburu

Implementation Executive

Evans collects field data vital to our monitoring of product introduction. In doing so, he gives us broad contextual understanding of how well we’re working towards our objectives.

Evans’ background is in public health and international development. He spent six years working in public health consulting across Africa, mainly in pharmaceutical supply chains, donor-funded health management programmes and financial monitoring. Before joining MedAccess, he worked at KPMG’s International Development Advisory Services.

Abi Mustapha-Maduakor

Head of Business Operations & Finance

Abi oversees the business operations for MedAccess including oversight of finance, organisation development, human resources, administration, risk and strategy implementation.

Abi has several years of finance and operations experience spanning across in EY, Royal Bank of Scotland and Lloyds Banking Group. She is experienced in scaling small businesses and most recently held roles as the COO of the African Private Equity and Venture Capital Association and Special Adviser, on private sector issues, to the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment in Nigeria.

Alex Mustetea

Investment Executive

Alex focuses on executing and managing investments. His work comprises running financial analyses, managing due diligence processes and the structuring of transactions.

Alex has a background in mergers and acquisitions as well as private equity, having worked at Deutsche Bank, Eight Roads and Hg Capital. Most recently, he led the sustainable investments strategy at Deutsche Bank’s Wealth Management business.

Alex holds a Master’s in Management and Strategy from the London School of Economics and a BA from the University of Nuremberg.

Tristana Perez

Development Impact Associate

Tristana measures and monitors our impact, ensuring health and economic outcomes are in line with our strategic objectives and values.

Before joining MedAccess, Tristana was on the Global Health Strategy team at Public Health England where she developed and strengthened relationships with key international partners. Previously, she supported the awarding of population health grants at the Wellcome Trust.

Tristana holds a degree in Molecular Biology with certificates in Neuroscience and Global Health from Princeton University, and a Master’s in Public Health in global health from Imperial College London.

Guy Pickles

Health Markets Executive

Guy works on the oncology and African partnerships portfolio, where he Identifies, diligences and structures potential opportunities. He brings almost a decade of experience working on partnerships and financing arrangements to increase access and improve delivery of health products and services around the world.

Most recently, Guy served as a manager at Social Finance UK where he advised global health funders, investors and social enterprises on alternative financing models to tackle global health challenges. Guy previously spent six years at GSK, where he held several positions focusing on global health policy, strategy, and access to medicines.

Hema Srinivasan

Chief Access Officer

Hema leads our work to identify opportunities for financial guarantees to support lower prices and greater availability for medical products.

Hema joined MedAccess from Gilead Sciences, where she was Senior Director for South Asia. She previously served as Associate Director of the Global Markets Team at the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) where she developed global market shaping strategies and led negotiations to increase access to life-saving medical products.

Earlier in her career, Hema worked in Equity Research covering the Biotechnology and Healthcare Services sectors at Goldman Sachs and at Morgan Stanley.

Simon Sweet

Company Secretary

Simon is Secretary to the Board of Directors and its Committees and oversees corporate governance within the business.

Simon has over 30 years’ experience in senior governance roles in listed and international groups of companies, most recently as Group Company Secretary at Globeleq. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators.

Michelle Teo

Chief Investment Officer

Michelle manages MedAccess’ guarantee portfolio, through the development of short-term and long-term investment plans, investment analysis, and the monitoring and management of investments.

Before joining MedAccess, Michelle was a Managing Director at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Her career first began in the field of medicine, after graduating from the University of Oxford with a BA in Physiological Sciences and a BM, BCh.

Nigel Keen

Board Chairman

Nigel brings decades of experience in healthcare and commerce to the oversight and governance of MedAccess. His career has encompassed venture capital, industry and banking, and he has been involved in the formation and development of high technology businesses for more than 30 years.

He is currently Chairman of Syncona Investment Management, Oxford Academic Health Science Network and Oxford University Innovation. He also Chairs the AIM-listed medical device company Deltex Medical Group.

Daniel Camus

Board Member

Daniel brings 25 years’ experience in international finance to his position as a MedAccess director. During 11 years with the pharmaceutical group Aventis, he held a number of Chief Financial Officer roles, followed by 10 years as CFO at energy firm EDF. Daniel most recently served as CFO of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

Daniel holds several other Non-Executive Director positions including with the Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics (FIND), a Swiss-based non-profit healthcare organisation.

Diana Noble CBE

Board Member

Diana brings over 30 years’ experience in private equity, venture capital and international development. She combines Board responsibilities with chairing the MedAccess Investment Committee.

Diana has held roles of CEO at CDC Group, Executive Vice President Operations at the Clinton Health Access Initiative and Partner at Schroder Ventures (now Permira). 

Dr. Egbe Osifo-Dawodu

Board Member

Egbe is a Partner at the Anadach Group, providing advisory services to a wide range of clients. She is a member of the UK Royal College of Physicians, with over 30 years’ healthcare experience covering policy, provision and financing in Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America.

Egbe has held various positions at the World Bank Group, working on public policy and investment transactions at the International Financial Corporation.

Holger Rothenbusch

Board Member

Holger is Managing Director of the Debt team at CDC Group. He has spent over 20 years in development finance in Latin America, Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe, working across numerous emerging markets, sectors and products.

Prior to joining CDC, Holger held several senior positions at the German Development Finance Institution, including building the Equity & Mezzanine Team. He started his career as a commercial banker with Deutsche Bank.

Willem Verhoofstad

Board Member

Willem is a former Senior Vice President at Roche Pharma in Switzerland.

He has over 34 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, culminating in various global leadership roles in product development, business development, strategic marketing, R&D strategy and portfolio management. His broad and deep experience covers a wide range of therapeutic areas and geographies.
