“Viral load testing needs to be escalated enormously if we’re going to have any chance of tackling this epidemic” – MedAccess CEO
This piece from the National Public Radio discusses the importance of making routine HIV tests more accessible as part of the effort to reach the U.N.’s ambitious goal to eliminate HIV transmission by the year 2030.
It highlights the role of MedAccess and CHAI in supporting Hologic’s affordable testing initiative. It notes that the Hologic platform provides one of the most accurate ways to measure if a patient is responding to anti-retroviral drugs, with the added benefit of also being able to test for hepatitis B and C, as well as HPV.
The article cautions that whilst viral load testing plays a critical role in tackling the HIV epidemic, it will only work where laboratory infrastructure and health system delivery are up to the mark.
