Michael Anderson joins ODI panel on development finance institutions and healthcare

by MedAccess

Development finance institutions’ (DFIs’) role in investing in healthcare was among the topics discussed at an event hosted by the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) on 22 October.

MedAccess CEO Michael Anderson joined Al-Karim Haji, Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Aga Khan University, and Claudia Martinez Ochoa, Senior Investment Officer at Propaco, to assess the immediate DFI response to the COVID-19 pandemic and how DFI’s could support public sector investment in the health sector.

During the session, Michael encouraged DFIs to “bring a public health mindset to their investments”, noting that:

At MedAccess, for every investment we make, we evaluate its potential impact on morbidity and mortality, as well as what the risk is and the financial return on it.

A full recording of the event, the second of a three-part series run by ODI in partnership with CDC Group and the European Development Financial Institutions, is available here.
