We are a social finance company with a mission to make healthcare more affordable and accessible for people living in underserved communities.
We are a UK based social finance company with a difference. We are motivated by purpose, not profit.
Our work combines commercial insight and rigour with a relentless pursuit of health impact.
As a social finance company, our model is designed to ensure we can deliver the maximum positive health impact while maintaining a sustainable business.
Our funding comes in the form of a $200 million investment from CDC Group, the UK’s development finance institution. Unlike other health-focused organisations, we do not make regular funding requests to donors. Instead, to sustain our business over the long term we aim to prevent capital erosion.
We do this through robust diligence and risk analysis, our capital investments and by charging a fee to manufacturers to access our financial products.
In line with our focus on purpose over profits, any surpluses are reinvested into the business, enabling us to pursue new partnerships.
We engage with a wide range of partners from across the healthcare landscape.
We work with global health partners to source and assess opportunities while engaging policymakers and civil society to understand policy frameworks and delivery methods.
Although we usually contract directly with one company or organisation, all partners have important roles to play in ensuring MedAccess guarantees deliver their intended development impact.
Once a guarantee is in place, we work with suppliers, national governments, civil society, procurers and healthcare providers to ensure the healthcare products reach the people who need them.
Our guarantees primarily benefit people living in low- and middle-income countries that are eligible for official development assistance as defined by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
At least 50% of patients receiving products as a result of a guarantee must be based in CDC priority territories (sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia).
